SCIENCE CAMP NARRATIVE
PARKER ROSE
Science camp was a great experience. We got to have tons of new experiences and lots of fun adventures that I have not had before. It was really great. We explored new horizons and had a great time doing it. On the first day, we went in a big school bus and drove to Mount Hermon. They went in the wrong entrance at first, so we had to drive all they way around. Then we put our luggage on a tarp and went to the sports court while we waited for the last school to arrive.
The sports court was like prison. We were either to wait in line to throw a ball into a hoop or we could stand around and talk. That was REALLY boring. After that traumatic experience, we went into the forum, which is like an auditorium, and listened to them talk about camp rules and normal stuff like that. One complaint I had with the forum is that they would always make the bass way too loud to the point where it would break my eardrums. I had to yell at the top of my lungs to talk to my friend sitting 2 inches away from me.
Then we ate lunch. The meals at Mount Hermon were pretty good, except
for the constant use of turkey. We only had chicken once. All the other meat was turkey. They’re going to drive the turkeys extinct, I tell you!
One of the best parts of camp was the diving board. They had a 10 feet tall diving board and a 2 feet one too. They had a separate diving pool that was 12 feet deep! It was really awesome. One of my friends, Tommy, and I would go to the diving pool every day during rec time and we would push each other to do different tricks. We each had our own signature trick. Mine was the head first dive and his was the standard flip. I was never able to do a flip off that board, but I convinced other people to dive. Since they didn’t have the correct form, they failed and their head hurt because there was too much water pushing against their head.
The other schools were really annoying public schools. They would swear and make bad jokes that were inappropriate. They also would have tons of food waste. They weighed our food waste, and the public schools were super wasteful. To prove it, the meal after they left, we had NO food waste. They said it was the first time that happened all year.
On Wednesday, we did the all day hike where we hiked for 6 hours. It was really cool, but my feet really hurt afterwards. We saw cool things like albino, or white trees, a creek, a river, and circle of giant redwoods.
Finally, on Tuesday we did a night hike where we played night games and went on a solo hike for a few hundred feet. It was really awesome.
In conclusion, we explored new horizons and had great new adventures through things like the full day hike and the night hike. There was also lots of fun things like the diving board and repetitive boring things like all the turkey. Overall, science camp was a great experience and it was worth all the time I spent at it.
